Description
73'
V. Osimhen has scored a goal for Napoli! Assist by K. Kvaratskhelia.
Kvaratskhelia was alert to intercept Caldara's shocking pass before unselfishly laying the ball off to Osimhen to lash home.
GOAL!!! Osimhen has scored again! Kvaratskhelia and Osimhen have terrorised teams all season long, and they combine again to surely put the result beyond doubt. A loose pass by Caldara in the Spezia defence is latched onto by Kvaratskhelia, who squares for his team-mate to fire past a helpless Dragowski and make it 3-0 to Napoli!
68'
V. Osimhen has scored a goal for Napoli!
GOAL!!! Napoli make it 2-0, and it is that man again as Osimhen nets his 15th Serie A goal of the campaign. Kvaratskhelia's cross was not dealt with by the Spezia defence, and the ball flies into the air. With both Osimhen and Dragowski challenging for it, the striker gets there before the goalkeeper to nod into the back of the net.
67'
Looking to atone for his error for the penalty, Reca ignores options to his right to try his luck from outside the area, though it proves to be a poor decision as his shot goes straight at Meret.
62'
E. Elmas enters the game and replaces P. Zieliński.
Zielinski makes way for Elmas.
59'
Verde does well to cut onto his right foot and create room to shoot, but his curling effort flies high over Meret's crossbar.
57'
A big problem for Spezia is that they just cannot get hold of the ball at the minute, as Spalletti's men probe for a second goal that would surely put this game beyond the hosts' reach.
52'
P. Zieliński gets yellow.
Zielinski sees yellow for clipping the heels of Agudelo in midfield.
50'
M. Caldara gets yellow.
Caldara is booked for cynically bringing down Osimhen as the striker wriggled away from him.
47'
Penalty goal scored by K. Kvaratskhelia for Napoli!
GOAL!!! Kvaratskhelia steps up, before side-footing his penalty into the back of the net. Dragowski guesses the right way, but the Napoli man's spot-kick has too much power on it and goes in to make it 1-0 to the league leaders!
46'
M. Politano enters the game and replaces H. Lozano.
Lozano makes way for Politano at the interval.
The visitors get us back underway for the second period!
45' +1
HALF-TIME: SPEZIA 0-0 NAPOLI
45'
The fourth official puts up his board and indicates there will be just one minute of additional time at the end of this first half.
43'
The ball sits up nicely for Lozano to shoot from 25 yards out, but his drive never looks like troubling Dragowski and ends up flying high into the stands.
41'
Lozano wins a corner after his cross is blocked behind by Reca, but they make a bit of a hash of the resulting set-piece and their short corner routine ultimately comes to nothing.
39'
Osimhen looks to latch onto Kvaratskhelia's throughball in behind the Spezia defence, but the Georgia international's pass has slightly too much power on it and it races through to Dragowski.
34'
The game has just hit a bit of a lull after a frantic opening. The hosts will be delighted if they can get to half-time level, with the visitors dominating possession in this first half, albeit without creating too many clear-cut chances.
26'
The delivery is whipped towards the far corner, but Caldara is there to side-foot it away from danger.
24'
The referee points for a free-kick after Kvaratskhelia is brought down by Agudelo, though Napoli players scream for a penalty with the incident happening right on the edge of the box. He waves away their protests though, and replays show he was correct to do so.
20'
A cross from the right is nodded behind by Ampadu under little pressure. Can the Partenopei take advantage?
19'
H. Lozano gets yellow.
Lozano is yellow-carded for a late challenge on Agudelo, one that relieves some of the pressure Spezia had been under in the last couple of minutes.
17'
The free-kick is cleared, but the visitors recycle the ball and it ends up with Zielinski making room to shoot from outside the area. His low effort is tame though and easily gathered by Dragowski.
16'
E. Ampadu gets yellow.
Ampadu goes in the book for bringing down Kvaratskhelia, while Napoli will have a free-kick in a threatening crossing position.
14'
There is a brief break in play due to a problem with the pressure of the ball, but the issue is quickly resolved and the game resumes.
11'
Di Lorenzo gets his head on a corner at the near post, but he can only flick wide of the right post. That would have been a tap-in had a Napoli player been waiting at the back post.
9'
After enduring some early pressure from the hosts, the visitors are just enjoying a spell of possession in the opposition half as they look to gain control of this match.
5'
The hosts have started this game well as they look to pull off the upset and put a dent in Napoli's title hopes.
3'
Agudelo drives into the Napoli penalty area before blazing over Meret's crossbar.
1'
The hosts kick us off and we are underway!
Hello and welcome to live coverage of Serie A, as leaders Napoli face Spezia in Sunday's early game.
NAPOLI (4-3-3): Alex Meret; Giovanni Di Lorenzo, Amir Rrahmani, Kim Min-Jae, Mario Rui; Frank Anguissa, Stanislav Lobotka, Piotr Zielinski; Hirving Lozano, Victor Osimhen, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
SUBS: Daniel Maldini, Petar Zovko, Federico Marchetti, Emil Holm, Julius Beck, Tio Cipot, Salvador Ferrer, Raimonds Krollis, Przemyslaw Wisniewski.
The visitors meanwhile are flying at the Serie A summit, bouncing back from defeat to Inter to rattle off four straight wins and extend their lead at the top to 13 points. Their last title victory was in the 1989-90 campaign, but a fifth consecutive victory would further strengthen their case to be champions once again come the end of the season.
The hosts come into this game sat just a place above the relegation zone and with two defeats in their last two matches. A win here though would help in their fight against the drop and increase their gap to the bottom three to eight points, temporarily at least with 18th-placed Verona due to play Lazio on Monday.
The two teams make their way onto the pitch ahead of this important game at both ends of the Serie A table.
SUBS: Davide Marfella, Pierluigi Gollini, Diego Demme, Juan Jesus, Eljif Elmas, Mathias Olivera, Giovanni Simeone, Bartosz Bereszynski, Matteo Politano, Alessio Zerbin, Karim Zedadka, Leo Ostigard, Gianluca Gaetano, Giacomo Raspadori, Tanguy Ndombele.
Napoli have not been at their free-scoring best here, with main man Osimhen only mustering a single shot in the opening 45 minutes, a header that flew well over the crossbar. He will hope to have more of an influence on the second half as Spalletti's men look to consolidate their spot at the Serie A summit.
Thanks for joining us for live coverage of Napoli's 3-0 Serie A victory over Spezia. Goodbye!
Another huge victory extends Napoli's lead at the top of Serie A to 16 points, with closest challengers Inter facing a tough test against city rivals Milan later this weekend. It would take a spectacular collapse now for Spalletti's men to not be lifting the title come the end of the campaign. For Spezia, a third straight defeat means they miss the opportunity to pull away from the relegation zone, and that five-point gap to 18th-placed Hellas Verona could quickly be overturned if they do not start putting points on the board again soon.
