Neymar kicks off for PSG, as Ligue 1's defending champions get their 2022-23 campaign back underway!
Hello, and welcome to live coverage of this Ligue 1 fixture, as leaders Paris Saint-Germain take on Strasbourg in both sides' first games after the 2022 World Cup.
PSG entered the World Cup break with a five-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table, and at the tournament itself, their star players shone, with Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe in particular rising above the rest, as Argentina beat France on penalties after drawing 3-3 in arguably the best World Cup final of all time.
It’s been a different story for Strasbourg though, who after a sixth placed finish last season, currently lie second-bottom of the table with just one victory to their name, the lowest in the division. Pre-World Cup form has very little bearing on this fixture, with neither side having played in over six weeks, but it’s far from the record Les Bleu et Blanc would have wanted ahead of a trip to PSG.
STRASBOURG SUBS: Robin Risser, Jean-Eudes Aholou, Lebo Mothiba, Habib Diallo, Ibrahima Sissoko, Antoine Nuss, Tom Saettel, Franci Bouebari.
STRASBOURG (4-3-1-2): Matz Sels; Ismael Doukoure, Alexander Djiku, Gerzino Nyamsi, Lucas Perrin; Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Sanjin Prcic, Habib Diarra; Adrien Thomasson; Kevin Gameiro, Ludovic Ajorque.
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN SUBS: Keylor Navas, Sergio Rico, Achraf Hakimi, Danilo Pereira, Pablo Sarabia, Carlos Soler, Warren Zaire-Emery, Ilyes Housni, Ismael Gharbi.
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN (4-3-1-2): Gianluigi Donnarumma; Nordi Mukiele, Sergio Ramos, Marquinhos, El Chadaille Bitshiabu; Fabian Ruiz, Marco Verratti, Vitinha; Neymar; Hugo Ekitike, Kylian Mbappe.
The teams head out onto the pitch, and we're nearly ready for the resumption of domestic league football at the Parc des Princes!
The sides return for the second half, and can PSG press home their advantage as they look to re-start their Ligue 1 campaign with three points?
PSG resume their Ligue 1 campaign with a far-from-routine three points, edging Strasbourg by the finest of margins. That extends their lead at the top of the table to eight points, with second-placed Lens still to play, while Strasbourg remain second-bottom with just 11 points, exactly four times less than PSG's 44. A draw wouldn't have seen them climb any higher, but the manner of their second-half performance suggests that there's still plenty of fight in Les Bleu et Blanc yet.
That's all from us, we hope you enjoyed the match. The games are coming thick and fast after the World Cup break, so it won't be long until we see you for the next one. Goodbye!
