Ibañez has scored a goal for Roma!
WHAT A GOAAAAALLLLLLLLLL - AJAX 1-2 ROMA - Ibanez is the hero as he smashes Roma into the lead with minutes remaining. Fonseca's side won a corner, and after a near-post flick-on, the ball fell to the Roma centre-back. He chested the ball before rifling it into the far corner. Any striker would be proud of that effort!

With less than 30 minutes remaining, this game is nicely poised. Roma are not going to be taking too many chances with a 1-1 draw, a fantastic result ahead of the second leg in Rome. On the other hand, Ajax need to get going and push for a second goal.
57'
L. Pellegrini has scored a goal for Roma!
GOAAAALLLLL AJAX 1-1 ROMA - An awful error from Scherpen gifts Roma a goal, and we are all square in Amsterdam. Fonseca's side won a free-kick on the edge of the box, and Pellegrini's effort was nothing special. Instead of making a routine save, Scherpen has dived too far to his left and failed to adjust his body. As a result, the ball has hit him on the hip and trickled into the goal.
53'
Penalty saved by Pau López!
Lopez might have made that look easy, but he did very well to stay big, and he was fortunate that Tadic's effort was so poor.
SAVE!!!!! Tadic fails to double Ajax's lead, and his poor penalty is saved by Lopez. The former Southampton man tried to go to Lopez's right, but the keeper barely had to move.
48'
This half has started very similar to the first, neither side have gained control.

HALF-TIME - AJAX 1-0 ROMA.
45'
Two minutes of stoppage time to come!

Roma need to make sure they head into the break just one goal down. They are showing signs of nerves in midfield, but there is still plenty of time left in this match.
39'
D. Klaassen has scored a goal for Ajax! Assist by D. Tadić.
Tadic deserves plenty of praise for the assist, as many forwards would have gone for goal themselves, but he laid the ball on a plate for Klaassen.
GOAAAALLLL AJAX 1-0 ROMA - Ajax break through the Roma midfield, and after carving them open with ease Klaassen slots the ball home. The visitors were dispossessed on the edge of their own box, and while their players asked for a free-kick, Klaassen made his way into the area. A one-two with Tadic caused chaos for the Roma defence, and Klaassen was then able to tap the ball into the bottom corner.
36'
OVER! Cristante comes close to opening the scoring from a Roma free-kick. Dzeko's header found Diawara, who teed up Cristante, but the centre-back blazed his volley over the crossbar. Replays showed Diawara was offside in the build-up, but that was a nice move from the visitors.
30'
Thankfully for Roma, Ibanez is fit enough to carry on, and they could do without another injury to worry about.
29'
R. Calafiori enters the game and replaces L. Spinazzola.
Spinazzola's night is over, he has failed to run the problem off, and Calafiori is his replacement.
26'
Weirdly, Spinazzola has decided to stay on. It looked almost guaranteed that he would be replaced, but he has shown plenty of heart to try and stay out there for his team.
19'
Ajax's Neres and Antony are making life really difficult for the Roma defence. They are staying wide and then bursting forward, and it is forcing Peres and Spinazzola back towards their own box.
10'
Ajax are slowly starting to control matters. Roma are standing firm for now, but they will need to start doing more on the counter if they are to get a result this evening.
8'
False alarm! Ajax end up winning consecutive corners but Roma's defence holds firm and it remains 0-0.
7'
Ajax win a corner, and this should be a great chance for them to test the Roma defence.
4'
SAVE! Lopez gets his hands on the ball for a nice early confidence boost as Gravenberch tries his luck from range. The Ajax midfielder had the whole goal to aim at, but he played it safety first, and it made life easier for the Roma stopper.
3'
Neither side has managed to take control of the game so far, but the tempo is strong, and both teams are pushing forward when they have the ball.

We are underway in Amsterdam!
Good evening and welcome to our live coverage of the Europa League clash between Ajax and Roma. The Dutch champions welcome Roma to the Johan Cruijff ArenA for the first leg of their quarter-final battle.
Ajax dropped down into the Europa League this season, and they have proven their class so far after getting the better of Lille and Young Boys in the knockout stages. Like the hosts, Roma also won all four of their knockout matches, and they battled past Sporting Braga and Shakhtar Donetsk to reach this stage of the competition.
Ajax's form coming into the game could not be much better, with Erik ten Hag's side unbeaten in 24 matches in all competitions. Roma have been a little inconsistent, winning just two of their previous five games.
SUBS: Quinten Timber, Brian Brobbey, Daan Reiziger, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, Dominik Kotarski, Lassina Traore, Neraysho Kasanwirjo, Mohammed Kudus, Sean Klaiber, Kenneth Taylor, Oussama Idriss.
ROMA: (3-4-2-1): Paul Lopez; Gianluca Mancini, Bryan Cristante, Ibanez; Bruno Peres, Lorenzo Pellegrini, Amadou Diawara, Leonardo Spinazzola; Pedro, Jordan Veretout, Edin Dzeko.
SUBS: Riccardo Calafiori, Carles Perez, Daniel Fuzato, Antonio Mirante, Davide Santon, Borja Mayoral, Riccardo Ciervo, Tommaso Milanese, Gonzalo Villar.
AJAX (4-3-3): Kjell Scherpen, Devyne Rensch, Jurrien Timber, Lisandro Martinez, Nicolas Tagliafico; Davy Klaassen, Edson Alvarez, Ryan Gravenberch; Antony, Dusan Tadic, David Neres.
The two teams are now out on the field of play, and kick-off is moments away!
Ajax's front three look dangerous, and it will be a shock to see no more goals scored in this contest. Roma need to try and get Pedro and Veretout on the ball a little more if they want to find an equaliser.
That is all from us folks, thanks for joining us. Goodbye!
Ajax have the firepower needed to cause problems in Rome, but Fonseca's team looked solid at the back, and it promises to be a fascinating fixture next Thursday. Tadic will be looking to make amends, and the tie is nicely poised, heading into the second leg.
